The Development Operations (DevOps) team at EdgeCast is a cross-functional Operations/Software Engineering team with involvement at all phases of our application and service release lifecycle. The DevOps Engineer is responsible for design, implementation, and ongoing support of the production services, applications and platform components that power EdgeCast's industry-leading content delivery and application acceleration solutions. In this role you have the opportunity to leverage your technical skills in systems management, software development and networking to provide best-practices guidance and Tier-3 support to the Operations and Development teams.

  • Work closely with operations, quality and engineering teams to design and implement scalable solutions for our content delivery network and internal management tools.
  • Drive automation of application deployment and system provisioning for production and pre-release environments.
  • Define monitoring requirements and implement automated incident resolution solutions.
  • Manage revision control, continuous integration and build systems.
  • Define standard run books and operating procedures for production services in coordination with the Network Operations team.
  • Provide 24x7 tier-3 troubleshooting and break-fix support for production services.
  • Quickly and efficiently troubleshoot simple and complex issues in order to provide outstanding support for customer and internal needs.
  • Identify areas for process and efficiency improvement within Core Development and Systems Operations, then recommend solutions and assist in overseeing implementation and automation. Actively facilitate continuous improvement.
  • Ensure all necessary operational processes and procedures are carried out with a high level of attention to detail, expediency and on-time delivery.
  • Create and maintain system information diagrams, run books and detailed documentation.
  • Monitor various systems capacity and provide analytics & forecasts for added or reduced capacity as required.

  • Extensive Unix/Linux experience required.
  • Experience with configuration management, monitoring, and trending.
  • Strong understanding HTTP protocol and experience in management of server implementations (Apache HTTPD / Lighttpd / nginx).
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience including in managing Linux/Unix and Windows platforms in high availability and high traffic environments. We'd like to know your experience with such things as HTTP/RESTful APIs, DNS/ADS, storage, data stores, system configuration and administration, and/or media streaming (in Flash, Windows, QT, Real)
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, load balancing clusters, SLB, firewalls, ISPs, routers.
  • Understanding of automation practices throughout the development, build, and deployment phases of the application life-cycle
  • Demonstrated ability to support and administer high volume pre-release and production environments for internal and external facing applications.
  • Fluency in one or more programing languages (Bash, Perl, Python, Ruby, C, etc.)
  • Understanding of revision control and continuous integration best practices.
  • Familiarity with Windows Server and IIS management a plus.
  • Experience using an operational ticketing system to record changes and work history details such as Team Support, OTRS or Service Now.
  • 1-2 years of CDN or ISP experience is highly preferred.
  • B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience required
  • Experience and development with Jenkins/Hudson, TravisCI, or homegrown/other CI tools a plus.
  • Open source code or online code samples (Github, Bitbucket, etc) is a big plus
