Plum District is a daily deal site geared towards smart, savvy moms. Each day, Plum District sends members a deal that relates to them and their busy lives-everything from spa treatments and restaurants to family outings and kids’ activities. Plum District is unique in that it is solely focused on moms and deals are sourced by moms that will make their lives easier or more enjoyable.
The business, launched in May 2010, has expanded nationally providing the best deals in the country sourced by local moms. Plum District just secured a round of financing from Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, with participation by General Catalyst Partners.
The Vice President of Sales will work with the CEO to set and implement the overall strategic sales direction for the company in terms of expanding and identifying vendor base, managing account assortment and field force supervision. The sales force incorporates a network of mothers around the country providing an opportunity to earn commission on each transaction. The Vice President of Sales will hire, recruit and develop this unique and diverse national sales force. This leader will be responsible for ensuring that all sales opportunities are maximized and that sales and financial targets are met in a timely and consistent manner. The appropriate leader will recognize the opportunity to build the Plum District brand by driving sales with existing and new products/deals.
Business Management/Strategy: Act as a strategic partner to the CEO to bring innovative and strategic sales leadership into the organization. Know the competitors, market/product trends and general conditions that will affect the business over the short and long term. Ensure positioning is maximized and consistent with the brand strategy. Lead the development of a mid to long term business strategy to achieve sales goals. Lead the execution of the business plan and anticipate, as well as respond to, many of the issues the company will face in an aggressive and successful growth period. Create, manage and refine key organizational processes. Maximize the partnership (and hence retail sales) with all accounts, big and small. Prepare and monitor annual sales budgets and forecasts by account
Sales Management, Training & Leadership: • Grow top line sales quickly (hit the ground running) without compromising the brand or the bottom line. Create metrics to monitor and motivate sales performance while preserving entrepreneurial spirit. Motivate and direct a large national sales team that will execute the sales and marketing strategies of the brand. Must create strong organizational process to a diverse and direct network of moms across the country. Enhance the talents and attributes of the sales team through training programs, individual development plans and other retention strategies. Ability to significantly impact retail sales by assessing business opportunities, creating vendor expansion ideas, developing marketing strategies and following through to impeccable execution. Monitor and analyze the sales performance for all sales executives and accounts on a weekly and monthly basis.
Desired Experience: Successful 7-15 year track record in account sales and sales management in wholesale, retail, ecommerce, business to business or direct to consumer sales. Contemporary channels of distribution preferred. Demonstrated sales management track record, consistently exceeding expectations and delivering strong top and bottom line results in an account management environment. Proven ability to effectively communicate with all levels of an account and organization Proven track record in hiring, training and motivating top talent sales force. A seasoned leader who exhibits excellent communication skills, strategic planning ability, delegation, follow-up, analytical and strong interpersonal skills. Developed and achieved profitable P&L’s. Strong existing retail relationships preferred. Advanced degree preferred.
