Qualifications:
Connecticut K-12 Special Education Certificate; or Durational Shortage Area Permit per recommendation by the Lighthouse Voc-Ed Center’s administration. Function:
To serve as a teacher for special needs students. To serve as a teacher who supervises the delivery of special education service. Organizes and provides developmentally appropriate special education programs for assigned students. Reports To:

The Teacher will supervise the non-certified staff (paraprofessionals) and students assigned to his/her special education programs. Assists administration in the supervision and evaluation of paraprofessionals. Major Responsibilities and Requirements:
Curriculum and Instruction:
Use the curriculum of local school districts and Lighthouse Voc-Ed Center as a guide for instruction. Follow I.E.P. to ensure student’s I.E.P. goals are being addressed throughout daily lessons. Plan daily activities and ensure schedule is followed. Plan and carry out instruction in large/small groups and individual lessons working on I.E.P. goals and objectives, monitor student’s progress and make modifications and suggest strategies to meet student’s needs. Assist in the development and identification of appropriate curriculum materials. Staff Personnel:
Attend all staff meetings. Discuss any pertinent information regarding students programs, etc. Supervise, evaluate and provide work assignments to assigned paraprofessionals and/or student teachers. Appropriately document coaching and corrective/disciplinary action conversations and meetings with subordinate paraprofessionals, following Lighthouse Voc-Ed Center's employee policies and procedures. Attend in service programs provided by the Lighthouse Voc-Ed Center, the State of Connecticut and other organizations as required. Participate in professional growth which includes the Lighthouse Voc-Ed Center’s Teacher Supervision, Evaluation, and Professional Development Plan Instruction. Participate in BEST program as appropriate. Plans and prepares classroom setting; oversees educational programs; supervises students in the classroom; provides a supportive environment in which children can learn and practice appropriate and acceptable individual and group behaviors. Observes paraprofessionals in small group instruction or other teaching settings to assess relevant skills, and recommends methods and strategies appropriate to the achievement of student goals. Leads and functionally supervises assigned staff and students, to include work allocation, training, and problem resolution; provides performance management feedback as appropriate. Student Personnel:
Evaluate and provide individual student’s progress on a regular basis and keep requisite records. Provide program reports as required by PPT. Justify promotions, retentions, and special programs. Complete progress reports quarterly. Responsible for supervising students and student instruction at all times. Provide daily feedback regarding student’s day to parents through use of communication or chart book as required. Plans and prepares classroom setting; oversees student safety in assigned instructional space and educational programs; supervises students in the classroom; provides a supportive environment in which children can learn and practice appropriate and acceptable individual and group behaviors. Operations:
Know and carry through with the Lighthouse Voc-Ed Center’s policies and procedures. Advise administration immediately of needed repairs, replacements and/or unsafe building conditions. Maintain and report accurate records of student’s attendance. Remain in school after dismissal of student as necessary to complete daily duties, etc. Follow school regulations regarding emergency procedures. Perform monthly fire drills and keep records of drills. Report to work daily at times assigned, etc. Finance/Business Management:
Ensure receipts are returned in a timely manner for items bought with student’s or school funds. Provide information regarding the annual school budget regarding expenditures for the special ed program upon request. School/Community Relation:
Attend all meetings/P.P.T’s and ensure all necessary paperwork is thoroughly and accurately completed prior to meetings. Interacts with parents and community groups; maintains open and cooperative communication with parents and families, encouraging their involvement in the program and supporting the student’s family relationships. Responsible for performing those duties which protect the health and safety of students and employees.
