The hours for this part-time position are 10:30 AM - 5:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
Responsibilities include: • Develop, prepare, and implement developmentally appropriate activities designed to promote physical, mental, and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, etc. • Support children’s emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts. • Teach socially acceptable behavior, using techniques such as behavior modification, positive reinforcement, and redirection. • Attend to the children’s basic needs (toileting, diapering, feeding, dressing, etc.). • Instruct children in the development of appropriate health and personal habits (eating, resting, toileting, etc.). • Read books to children and teach them simple rhymes, songs, etc. • Interact (play, read, talk, etc.) appropriately with children during all aspects of their day. • Take children outdoors daily, weather permitting. • Observe and monitor children’s play activities in the classroom, on the playground, etc. • Maintain appropriate staff:child ratios as stated in Department of Public Welfare (DPW) regulations. • Assist the Teacher (Group Supervisor) in caring for the needs of the children during preschool activities. • Prepare materials and equipment for daily lessons and activities. • Assist, supervise, and provide individual attention during group activities, including play, lessons, and snack time. • Prepare snacks/meals and clean up afterwards. • Organize and/or distribute all documentation for each child prior to pick up time. • Maintain and foster positive and constructive interaction with children, parents, families, outside agencies, etc. • Communicate with parents in a positive and constructive manner as pertains to the child’s day. • Schedule and conduct parent conferences as assigned (infant and toddler child care only). • Maintain records as assigned, such as Attendance Sheets, Incident Reports, and daily observations, as well as information about activities, meals, medication administered, etc. • Maintain a safe and clean environment. Maintain daily/weekly standards/checklists concerning cleanliness of materials and equipment. • Create an individualized educational plan for each child (infant and toddler child care only). • Maintain familiarity with and implement each child’s individualized educational plan. • Participate in quality initiatives (Keystone Stars, etc.) to continue to enhance children’s programming. • Assume responsibility and coordinate preschool classroom activities in the absence of the Teacher (Group Supervisor). • Coordinate the activities of Aides, Volunteers, and TSS in the absence of a Group Supervisor (Teacher or Supervisor, Children’s Services). • Adhere to transition procedures at age-appropriate times. • Administer minor first aid and medication to children as needed. • Consult and inform the Supervisor, Children’s Services regarding issues or concerns relating to curriculum, specific children, parent communications, classroom staff, policies and procedures, referrals, etc. • Inform the Supervisor, Children’s Services if a child is believed to need an assessment due to developmental, behavioral, or health concerns. • Assist in the planning and implementation of Children’s Services special events. • Comply with confidentiality policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
