Anticipated Employment Opportunity
We anticipate that in 2014 there will be an opportunity for the right candidate to join the CNST in advancing the field of nanotechnology at one of the country’s foremost nanotechnology user facilities. At this time we are seeking expressions of interest from individuals who believe they have the skills and abilities to ensure that the CNST’s complex infrastructure is effectively sustained and continuously improved to meet the ever increasing demands of state-of-the-art nanofabrication and measurement tools.
The Laboratory Facility Engineer will have the overall responsibility for managing all aspects of facility and infrastructure support of two buildings that contain an 8000 square foot, class 100, nanofabrication cleanroom, over 25 research laboratories, and general office space. Responsibilities will include ensuring operational consistency in HVAC, water chiller cooling loops, CDA delivery systems, DI water systems, house gas distribution systems, the central laboratory vacuum system, and other associated building support functions. This position will also include administrative duties such as supervising contractors, overseeing infrastructure service contracts, and supporting the acquisition of new service contracts needed to sustain the operations and ensure the facility is in regulatory compliance with all federal, NIST, city, and state regulations and guidelines.
Expected Skills Required
The position will require the ability to plan and coordinate multiple support groups to effectively sustain and improve the facility infrastructure. The successful candidate will have at least 10 years of experience with Facilities Management, with at least 5 years of those being directly involved with a clean room facility. Skills required will include a thorough understanding of complex HVAC laboratory and cleanroom air balancing, cleanroom protocols. This position will require a strong knowledge of building codes, power distribution systems, and piping systems. Administrative skills required include excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to discuss and explain complex electrical and mechanical issues and concerns with technical and non-technical people, and proficient use of Microsoft Office applications. This position is expected to be within NIST pay band III-IV (salary $62,467 – $136,771), commensurate with education, training and/or experience.
