Senior Energy Specialist, Power Transmission and Distribution Planning and Management

HIP Consult Inc. is a Washington, DC based management consulting firm focused on emerging markets, particularly Africa. We provide strategic, commercial, and implementation support in four industry verticals of telecommunications, energy, financial services, and infrastructure.

We are currently expanding our Energy practice and as such, are in search of a technical expert in the field of power transmission and distribution to join the team on a contract-basis for specific client engagements.

Engagements may last from a few weeks to several months, and may include both client facing and firm-internal responsibilities. Extended travel may be required in conjunction with certain engagements. Principle Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct technical assessments of client power transmission and/or distribution networks and data collection systems; recommend and plan technical improvement / investment programs
  • Conduct high level assessments of client transmission / distribution operations, and recommend operational and management performance improvements
  • Forecast short and long-term power transmission / distribution system needs, including integration of smart grid solutions; plan investment programs to meet future needs
  • Plan and lead knowledge transfer programs for client managers and technical personnel based on industry best practices; develop training curriculums

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in electrical engineering or similar required, master degree in electrical engineering or similar preferred, or alternatively a bachelor degree in electrical engineering with an MBA, or similar
  • Minimum 10 – 15 years of experience in the electrical utility industry including power transmission and distribution investment planning, design, IT and control systems, and operations management
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
    • Key performance indicators for power distribution systems
    • Demand Side Management (DSM)
    • Revenue collections (metering and pre-pay metering)
    • Smart metering and smart gird technology, design, and management
    • GIS planning and design
    • Enterprise Resource Program (ERP)
    • Customer Information System (CIS)
    • Outage Management Systems (OMS)
    • Asset Management Systems (AMS)
    • Customer Relations Management (CRM) and Customer Database
    • Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)
    • Transmission/Distribution Management and AutoCad for Design of SCADA Data
