Job Description

U.S. and Canadian applicants will get highest consideration. Expats abroad welcome to apply as well.

Looking for someone who enjoys working with WordPress and ideally Shopify. We are moving away from providing sites from scratch for clients with custom hand coded wp themes and would prefer to use something like Woo themes for WP sites and Shopify theme store for Shopify sites.

Our goal is to find the right person who has excellent graphic design skills and can implement a small/simple WP or Shopify project with quick turnaround. Typically speaking these are just 3-7 page brochure websites or small online shops. We are not getting involved in complex integrations or anything like that. Simple.

Ideal breakdown:

60% Creative. Good graphic design skill that is simple, clean, and clients would describe as "professional and polished." Much of this work will be making nice header graphics or really sleek slides for a homepage rotator. Simple photoshop stuff for the right person who has a creative side.

25% Programming ability.. whereas most of this is really just front-end code like html/css (expert). Occasional copy/paste for some php code snippets (entry to mid-level php and jquery)

15% Project management ability. This part we hope to outline our package website deals so that there is a very clear path for each project of what's included, what is not, and doing these things in order to help both you and the client stay the course. Less babysitting then traditional custom design process but still some flexibility.

If we get a project that is ecommerce.. we strictly go with Shopify. This is a very simple hosted platform and doesn't require in-depth programming. Mostly front-end html/css modifying existing themes. We don't expect many candidates to have Shopify experience but are confident that the right person will learn it quickly and enjoy using it as much as WordPress.

The ideal candidate would be working a set amount of hours each week. Compensation will be negotiated. We use freshbooks, basecamp, google docs, screencast videos, etc.. as tools to help collaborate and stay organized.

You will be working directly with clients.. phone calls, emails, online screen sharing, and sending narrated personalized video screencast tutorials to clients. You must be comfortable with all of these.. and needless to say, professional.

The average project will be outlined to be about 10-15 hours of work (very small and simple sites) for customizing graphics, tweaking existing themes, and some basic level custom functionality. Then a couple of hours set aside for settings, configuration, and other odds and ends to launch a site.

Seriously.. don't even bother applying if you are Not located in the U.S., Canada, or are a North American expat abroad (who can work and be available normal business hours in the U.S. for the most part).
