GLASSDOOR ANNOUNCES TOP 25 COMPANIES FOR WORK-LIFE BALANCE (2012)

The second annual report is based entirely on feedback shared by employees within the past year. The top five companies include: MITRE, North Highland, Agilent Technologies, SAS Institute and CareerBuilder.

SAUSALITO, Calif. (August 10, 2012) - In spite of the state of today’s economy, many companies continue to invest in the healthy and balanced lifestyle of their employees. Glassdoor, the leading social jobs and career community, reveals the Top 25 Companies for Work-Life Balance¹, recognizing companies that offer the best balance between work and personal life. The second annual report is based entirely on feedback shared by employees within the past year. The top five companies include: MITRE, North Highland, Agilent Technologies, SAS Institute and CareerBuilder.

“In today’s highly connected world, striving for work-life balance can feel virtually impossible given greater access to our jobs around the clock,” said Rusty Rueff, Glassdoor career and workplace expert, who ran global HR departments at Electronic Arts and PepsiCo before co-authoring Talent Force: A New Manifesto for the Human Side of Business. “Companies that make sincere efforts to recognize employees’ lives outside of the office will often see the payoff when it comes to recruiting and retaining top talent.”

MITRE and North Highland received the highest work-life balance rating (4.5 on a 5-point scale) from its employees over the past year. MITRE employees comment on the high value the company places on work-life balance as shown through flexible schedules, generous paid time off and other great perks like an on-site cafeteria and gym. North Highland employees speak to the company’s family-friendly work environment. This is also the second year that MITRE as well as eight other companies make Glassdoor’s Top Companies for Work-Life Balance list. Other companies making this list again include Agilent Technologies, SAS Institute, National Instruments, FactSet, United Space Alliance, Susquehanna International Group, Slalom Consulting and Morningstar.

Glassdoor’s list of top companies for work-life balance relies solely on the input of employees who elected to participate in an online company review survey. The survey gathers employee feedback on some of the best reasons to work for their employer (pros), some of the downsides (cons), and encourages employees to provide “advice to senior management.” In addition, employees are asked to rate: how satisfied they are with their employer overall, how well they feel their CEO is leading the company, as well as key workplace attributes like career opportunities, compensation & benefits, culture & values, and work-life balance.
