The Union worked hard and believed that all workers receive the same vacation. Total about 5 weeks a year.
No promotions despite significant achievements, awards, research contributions, lower pay than NIH rules and college rules. Do not get number of leaves as per the college rules. Investigator was not supportive for the scientific career progress of fellows. Do not get support for scientific meetings participation and reimbursement for attending meetings.
The technician positions are part of the union and their medical benefits are really good. Their childcare benefits are not as good, they provide them every other year, which does not make sense. Outside the union, the medical benefits are the same as any other place, requiring you to contribute certain percentage and the the company pays the rest. The other perks, like vacation days are also much better than many other places.
Health insurance keep changing for the worse. Increased co-pay and decrease policy value.
