They are very open to training and encourage it.

  • Oct 06, 2017
StarStarStarStarStar Former Employee in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

It was too extensive and not entirely useful as the job progressed.

  • Aug 29, 2017
StarStarStarStarStar Former Colorado Reading Corps Tutor in Fort Collins, Colorado

They clearly outlined what we were responsible for, and had us practice is over and over until we could do it in our sleep. Granted, I will note that people who came halfway through the service year felt very under-prepared. However, after a few weeks in the field everyone was good to go!

StarStarStarStarStar Former Corps Member in Aurora, Colorado

A lot of their training is repetitive.

  • Jul 11, 2017
StarStarStarStarStar Current VISTA Leader in Rock Hill, South Carolina

There is ample job training. AmeriCorps and the Corporation for National and Community Service offers a mandatory Pre Service Orientation. In addition, my specific organization offers an orientation as well as a Mid Service training and various summits and conferences.

StarStarStarStarStar Current AmeriCorps VISTA in Boston, Massachusetts

It was ok. They focused on areas they don't need to focus on. It was uninteresting but great networking.

  • Apr 03, 2017
StarStarStarStarStar Former Employee in Los Angeles, California

It's a week long training and they try to really focus on what you will do during your year of service

  • Mar 22, 2017
StarStarStarStarStar Current AmeriCorps VISTA in Fayetteville, Arkansas

The PSO training is quite helpful, and AmeriCorps pays for travel and lodging at the remote training site.

  • Mar 14, 2017
StarStarStarStarStar Former Employee in Austin, Texas

Continuous opportunities to develop professionally are helpful.

  • Mar 12, 2017
StarStarStarStarStar Current Employee in Chapel Hill, North Carolina

The job training was especially helpful. There are required trainings throughout the year that touch on service, social justice, and how to engage with community partners
