Health insurance is expensive, but it's good coverage.
Worst thing is that insurance prices are the same for everyone - regardless of salary. So for lower salaries, it is not good.
You have to pay the same for medical (company pays 80% of ONLY the EMPLOYEE's medical) as anyone else, regardless of salary, which for our family, is not affordable because to insure my family (spouse, child) would take a third of my salary. However, Medical can be a good deal if you have both spouses working for the school system as there is quite a significant break. The good thing about working for the school district, an unadvertised benefit, is that you have a good chance of getting "snow days" off too but do not have to make them up if you are not a teacher. Vacation days increase with increments of years of service, adding up to quite a lot of days with decades of service.
