Good benefits for the employees
Dental coverage is expensive but medical plans are reasonable. Maternity leave could be better, they only cover 60% for a partial period of time.
Not competitive. Very few vacation days your first 4 years (only 10, so less than 1 day a month). Benefits are not cheap.
Everything is pretty good with benefits and they do offer a paid parental leave program for new parents through birth or adoption. I have no complaints about my benefits.

AvalonBay matches the 401k up to a small amount. The max they will "match" is 50% of 6% of your paycheck (aka 3% of your paycheck). It is suggested, and AvalonBay even suggests, that you put in 10-12% minimum into a 401k but yet they don't match up to that amount. So if you put in the suggested 10%, 4% of that is not "matched." That's not matching in my opinion. You also have to stay employed for 4 years to be fully vested. So if you leave at Year 2, you'll only receive 50% of what they matched. You keep everything you put in, just not the AvalonBay dollars. Those 401K dollars do add up and it's nice not to think about it. Super easy way to save money and even the 50% matching is free money basically. But a 401K matching program should be standard at any decent company. The Health Insurance is good, but not the best I have seen. Appreciative to have it and it gets me glasses/contacts, dental work, general health coverage. There are FSA and HSA plans although not in the same plan category. There are 3 or 4 choices in plans. They've been actively promoting one specific plan which puts more of the burden on the person and the deductibles versus the more traditional PPO plans. The 20% discount to live at an AvalonBay community is a great benefit. It helps people potentially live close to work in an area that they could not afford otherwise. In LA, it's still pretty expensive regardless.
we get everything that you'd expect.... -401k which the match half -paid holidays,sick and vacation time (which grows with your tenure) -Health insurance (but it's expensive) for example for a family you'll pay 350.00 a pay period easy! -Flex time is a plus... Kids out of school? Use a flex day! They also use to let you use it for your work or wedding anniversary but now that's gone starting 2018 -You do get a housing discount, But it's only 20% when you have competitors offering 40 or 50 percent. -Company events are great!
