    Used to be the best.

  • Vacation & Paid Time Off(38 comments)

If work is busy they take away allocations so you can’t even use your vacation. Horrible place to work.

  • Retirement Plan(32 comments)

Nothing is worth giving this company 30 years of your life. They walk all over you daily and make you feel like a POS.

Health insurance is over $200 per month for employee only. No dental or vision until after a year of continuous employment. Union dues are just over $100 per month. No vacation unless there is 120 days of work during the previous year. First few years only 40 hours of vacation per year.

Good: medical insurance Bad: 1st yr = no vacation time. 2nd yr = 5 vacation days. 3-7 years = 10 vacation days. Takes MANY MANY years to get to 3-4 weeks of vacation. No supplemental life insurance, no short-term or long-term disability buy-up - this is handled through RRB after day 5.

Outstanding benefits. Tier 1 and Tier 2 railroad retirement. Tier 2 goes to spouse. Company recently transitioned from a typical pension into a more advanced 401k .

Overall, the benefits package for exempt employees matches or slightly exceeds what you would be offered at any very large US company.

The railroad used to be the best benefits anywhere. They have slowly taken away since Berkshire took over. They are average at best, with horrible work conditions. Morale at this company is the worst you’ll ever find.
