The BPMI health care benefits are designed to protect you and your family from the high cost of illness and injury and to help you stay healthy with preventive care benefits. Employees can choose the Preferred Provider Plan (PPO), High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP), Health Maintenance Organization Plan (HMO) which is for NY employees only, or no coverage. Health Savings Accounts are available to those who enroll in the HDHP. All plans cover the same range of benefits including: hospital, surgical, maternity, x-ray, doctor fees, lab exams, prescription drugs, mental health care, and substance abuse treatment. Employees are required to pay a portion of the premium.

Premiums keep increasing each year. The company does provide some money towards the HSA account, but family deductibles are still high. Health care costs in the Pittsburgh area are expensive because of the UPMC monopoly. The plan does not provide for full reimbursement of a gym membership that other large corporations offer.
I remember there being 3 options (Basic/FSA, Classic, or High-Deductable/HSA) through BCBS. HSA Matching for the High-Deductible plan combined with the out-of-pocket limits made it the only logical choice. Dental options limited to Delta (via reimbursement) which is notoriously difficult to get to pay back claims in a timely (and complete) fashion. Overall, slightly better than average, but not exceptional.
