Employer Summary

With employees and their families in mind, Berry Appleman & Leiden (BAL) has listened closely to what matters to employees.  Our rich portfolio of benefits includes health, dental, vision, company paid life, AD&D and LTD/STD insurances.  In addition, we offer a matching 401K program, flexible spending accounts, and a commuter savings program to encourage minimizing our carbon footprint.

Time away from work is also important for employees to recharge.  We have a rich PTO policy that includes 2 floating holidays and paid sick/vacation time.  We also believe in supporting our community by allowing each employee paid time off to volunteer.

Our culture is reflected in our office design and how we dress for work.  Our dress code is casual every day including jeans!

BAL offers a rich wellness program and an employee assistance program that offers a wide range of services.

Our belief in a diverse workforce has been recognized by Law 360's Diversity Snapshot which awarded us #1 Most Diverse Law Firm.  We are proud of that and believe each employee plays a significant part in our success because of our differences.  We live that daily and have affinity groups to support different aspects of our employee population.

BAL is a great place to work and our suite of benefits reflects that.

Health insurance is a bit expensive for what you actually get

It's okay. Match up to 3%

  • Vacation & Paid Time Off(5 comments)

For highly staff it takes 2 years of employment to gain an additional 2 days of PTO. You start off with 10 days.

Benefits are good and not expensive and you can enroll in 401k after 30 days. Unlimited vacation for salaried employees.

If you are an hourly employee there is not anything outstanding about the company. The pay is ok, the vacation is less than the standard 12-14 days a year and the healthcare coverage is also just ok. The company they use for retirement and 401k is awful to deal with.

The firm recently reduce the number of PTO hours you can carry over each year. So use your PTOs even if you think there's too much going on and you can't take a break. You earned your PTO so take it! Work will be there when you return.
