Takes over 10 years to get vested. The turnover with this company is so high, it's almost a joke!

The pension plan for the State University Retirement System (SURS) keeps be devalued because Illinois is broke and can’t afford it.

It is accumulating well but given the pension issues in Chicago and IL, I'm concerned whether it's being fully funded and will be around when I need it. The state of IL going through too many budget/funding issues

StarStarStarStarStar Current Adjunct Faculty Librarian in Chicago, Illinois

We pay into SURS, the state pension plan, with no matching contribution from employer (at least for adjunct faculty). Given the pension crisis in Illinois, we may never get our pensions when it comes time. CCC also doesn't pay into Social Security, so we may all be very broke if we ever have the chance to retire.

StarStarStarStarStar Current Faculty Member in Chicago, Illinois

It is not a substitute for social security. It does a disservice to not have to pay into social security fund and instead pay all your taxes into the state which is fighting over the budget. It's scary.
