Vested after 5 years of service.
Its decent if you can collect on it. The older pensions where better.
The best thing is that it accumulates rapidly.
I do not have enough information about the pension plan to give a proper answer. They participate with PARA, not Social Security.
The pension plan is great, and the main reason most people work there for so long. The flip side of it is you're a slave to the clock. I feel like I could easily take the money the state takes out of your pay and invest it wisely myself and have just as good if not better returns and not be held to work for the state for my entire life to get it. And, yes, it's not all they're money that goes into the pension - it's yours too!
The pension plan is through PERA. The website is easy to use.
