Small network, not accepted everywhere
With a $2000 family deductible and 60-80% coverage, the PPO plan offered was designed to cost families their $5000 out-of-pocket maximum. This seemed calculated to drive employees to the high deductible plan, which had a $4000 family deductible, then 100% coverage, but no deductible for wellness. Employees with a sick family member would shoulder thousands in medical costs per year with either plan.
