Hands on training is definitely seriously lacking; however, computerized training modules (which HAVE to be completed on company time, NOT outside the company!) are not only available, they are required.

External hires get 2 weeks on job training from a training store manager and the a half week after 6 months on the job with a regional trainer. Internal promotes don't get the 2 weeks in a training store.

The "training" I received was just me sitting at a computer for 8 hours taking tests and listening to boring videos that had me almost falling asleep. Oh and let's not forget the fact that I wasn't paid for that, and when I asked my future manager if I was to be paid for it or not I was ignored. Legally you're supposed to be paid for training it's considered working but with the shadyness of dollar general both as a store and as a job don't be surprised if you're not paid for your training either and they try to get free work out of you.
