The rate of earning vacation is sub par, there is no bereavement for deaths, their maternity leave is basically not even enough time to recover.

Duke uses a paid holiday system called Discretionary Days, which includes the usual national holidays. If you needed to work on a given holiday you can apply the time off to a different date. Earned vacation days roll over each year, there is a maximum but it's quite large. You can stockpile a maximum of 20 days' worth of vacation time with up to 4 years' service; max 30 days from 4-9 years service; and max 40 days if at Duke >9 years.

The paid time off and sick leave rolls over every years so it ends up accumulating very quickly. I was able to get all 12 weeks paid for maternity leave using my vacation and sick leave.

Up to 4 weeks vacation, plus sick time, and 7 or 8 holidays. Not too shabby.
