Fair, industry standard. As long as the manager accepts your Dr note and doesn't write you up for it.
Sick days are earned, not given. It's great that they offer the options, but the employee must be on the clock in order to earn them. What that in turn means is that any employee who has worked their longer (and thereby is off the clock more during the year due to more vacation hours than lesser tenured staff) actually earns less sick hours/days and potentially runs the risk of being forced to use their vacation hours for sick leave.

Inside Seattle city limits the sick days are good due to city laws. Elsewhere sick time is skimpy,something like 6 days a year
