    seems reasonable but my manager wouldn't let me take off if I didn't have enough time even if I agreed for some of it to be without pay

    The only other thing I would ask for is a month long paid sabbatical after 10 years of employment.

    I watched my boss deny my maintenance person time off to take his daughter to doctor for stitches since she had just fallen face first off her bike. It was pretty awful to see her say no, as any parent would be devastated by that. He took his daughter anyway, and did the work my boss wanted done, after he returned. Why did he have to behave like an insubordinate when she could have just to,d him yes, go, protect your child.
