Health and dental insurance benefits are wonderful and inexpensive for employees. The State University system retirement benefits are also very generous. Sick days and vacation days (~22 days a year) are also very generous along with some regularly scheduled university holidays (July 4th, a couple days at Thanksgiving and a week off around Christmas and the New Year's holidays). The State also pays for $25K of life insurance coverage for each employee as well.
Blue Cross Blue Shield for healthcare worked well for me. FSU also offers employee assistance programs to help with emergencies.
Best: Time off and Training and Course options Worst: Can't take off time without a difficult to obtain consent. Diversity Program is appalling.
Health insurance is pretty good at FSU. I used Florida Blue and had no difficulties with the program except for more complicated situations like surgery. Most of colleagues used Capital Health and loved that they covered a portion of health and fitness fees for their gym membership. Retirement is only a 5% match, but it's better than nothing. The worst thing about FSU's benefits would be the dental insurance. I found out in my second year that there were a number of dental insurance plans that did not have an office that accepted it in Tallahassee. You would just lose your money for selecting that program, so do your due diligence.
Time off, as a student there is always days that you are behind on school work and need a day to catch up. This job allows for this and is really helpful.
Health Insurance Providers changed during the 4 years I was there, and eventually, they stopped allowing graduate students to insure any dependents.
Health insurance and employee discount are some of the benefits grad. students get. There are also different training programs and many workshops for jobs.
- For part-time there is no minimum wage but they do let you call in sick whenever you need and work with you to make up hours that you missed
The FSU/ State employee tuition assistance program is a huge benefit! Up to two classes per semester can be covered through this program
Benefits are nonexistent. Student status is no excuse for exploiting your workers.
