You do not get very much as far as pay while on maternity/paternity leave. Even with short term disability it is not enough.

They are flexible which is great and will allow up to 3 months with a 2 month transition back to full time employment afterwards. However, you have to be employed a minimum of 3 years to receive any type of pay during that time. Short term disability is available but very low and was not even enough to cover my mortgage during that time period. I had to exhaust my yearly leave allotment to cover my expenses during this time. I'm not sure their policy on paternity leave.
