Personal Investment Chatter
My wife, whom i dated for 6 years & married last year told me she doesn’t want to have kids. It’s a curveball since we always talked about it for years and planned to get a house. Its one of my life dreams to be a dad because mine wasn’t there all that often. I guess my question is...since i have to reposition my views on Everything now..what is the point of buying a house, saving for retirement, etc when you don’t have kids? Because you don’t need the space and it’s easy to save for retirement.

Can we have an open discussion about racism? Disclaimer: I am a WW, so BW please feel free to correct me here. I believe that a lot of what we consider racism in this country is fueled by classism. I guess I bring this up in a hope that if we can start to address one issue, it would slowly turn us in the right direction on the other?
FIRE Financial Independence Retire Early
I will turn 59 in 2 days, divorced, $4.5 million in stocks & bonds, $700k in primary residence, $250k in rental real estate, finalizing sale of inherited property of $2million. At 59, this is “FIRE”. Single mom & son is 29 & independent. Worked hard, saved hard. Tax director at a Big 4. I have been toying with the idea of retiring at 59 1/2 but friends are surprised! They think 65 is “normal” retirement! Makes me second guess my plans...would you retire given my scenario?
Guess has a great benefits package
Benefits have been good overall.
The best thing is the benefits are better than most companies, but the worst thing is that the organization still makes the employees accrue vacation. Honestly, who is still making people accrue vacation in 2022? At this point, most companies have unlimited PTO or give a flat amount of about 150-200 hours a year for PTO.
No benefits, no bonus, nothing!
401k, flexible vacation, great health insurance
40-50% discount on clothes. 15 minutes breaks required, with couch, microwave and fridge.
