The Texas Teacher Retirement Plan is excellent, They match your contributions and pay out if you leave the TRS.
I should have saved more. I actually just cashed it out hoping that I am able to get my life started and on the path towards success and freedom. I am worried that I didn't save enough.
Lots of providers go with a reputable company, you retirement income will be low so you will need to establish a fund early in your career and sustain it until retirement and it willtake ALL SUMMER for this district to process your retirement forms so dont bother notifying them early, it doesnt matter how early you get your forms in they wont send anything to TRS until the END of the summer by this time you will be behind on everything and TRS will owe you 3 months of back pay
For the main retirement, teachers have the TRS system, which automatically pays in and out. HISD was also great about putting me in touch with third party providers to set up supplemental retirment (IRA, etc).
The best thing is that they match contributions. I can not think of anything negative about the retirement plan. It is a good benefit.
From what I've heard, its ok.
The retirement plan is designed to meet each individual's needs.
HISD allows for you to enroll in Annuities, which is not part of the district's plan but we do we have retirement with TRS.
TRS is the plan...love it, Information is available online, other retirement options are also available.
I know people who have retired with the texas retirement services and they are really enjoying their monthly check.
