I carry the second to highest tier of PPO coverage. The cost between the highest and the second highest PPO is ridiculous with only an additional 10% of coverage. The trade off of payment for coverage just doesn't make it worth it. The out of pocket is pretty high so you are assured to always have to pay out even in circumstances requiring significant care in a given year. The prescription coverage has become far more aggravating with nuances in what drug/dosage they will pay so you might at random, in a given year, be forcibly changed a drug, dose, or frequency to suit the insurance, if you don't comply then they make it so irritating for the medical provider they are forced to cave or find an alternative that satisfies because it's impossible to keep up with their requirements to give special permission to continue a drug regimen once the insurance has whatever better deal on some other size/quantity of pill. The benefit/ consequence to the patient doesn't seem to bare and effect on the situation. Even with all of that said, I generally do think the coverage is good. It has met our needs, you just have to really consider having the FSA if you deal with chronic conditions in your family so you don't have a financial breakdown whenever care is needed.
