Employees have a choice of Kaiser, Anthem Blue Cross Plus, Anthem Blue Cross PPO, Anthem Blue Cross EPO, Anthem Blue Cross HDHP and Anthem Blue Cross Core.
The health insurance offered by LLNL is quite comprehensive. There are a number of plans with varying coverage and prices. The health insurance I receive through the Lab's Kaiser Permanente plan is very good and low cost.
Kaiser Permanente health insurance was one of the health plans, and the cost was incredibly low compared to most other employers.
It covers dental, vision. Has to pay some amount, not fully covered. If you do not want to pay a lot for PPO, your only option is Kaiser, which is all right.
The benefits are comparable to many large companies. The fact that we are no longer not for profit has increased the costs significantly.
If you don't want Kaiser then the other option is very expensive.
The options are good, but the co-pays and premiums are very high.
Group plan and the company pays for most of it. When I switched from my previous employer I didn't realize I was actually getting a raise in my take home pay, because they both offered kaiser but with my old employer I paid the entire premium. I still have Kaiser for myself and the family, but I pay ~$180 a month and the lab pays ~$1500 a month.
Kaiser is affordable but there is pressure from DOE to reduce the employer contribution.
Choice between Anthem and Kaiser. Typical deductibles and copays. Nothing special.
The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory insurance plan is pretty good, but it is costly.
