The lab provides excellent benefits, though. It as good as when they were part of the UC system. Retirement benefits, health benefits, and vacation are quite competitive.
The benefits package at LLNL is excellent, including: good 401(k), generous allotted vacation time, flexible hours when needed, great health insurance.
Best is that it is really affordable to cover a family .
Used to have a pair of Golden Handcuffs with a "Real Pension", but when we switched over to being managed by a corporation (LLNS LLC) we lost that. However, 6% 401K match with a 4.5% 401K contribution from LLNS no matter how much I put in, is pretty good. Not golden handcuffs good, but still pretty good. Also I LOVE the affinity group options we have at lunchtime.
401(k) match is very generous
Insurance was just average. They offer a nice match for your 401k. Salaries are below average for the Bay area.
LLNL pays 3.5% into 401k regardless of employee contribution, and 100% matches 6%. Traditional, Roth, and after-tax options available. Financial nerds: Mega-Backdoor Roth compatible! Subsidized health plan, free dental, vision, basic life insurance. Decent amount of vacation and sick leave.
Good competitive benefits package. Good leave earning rate. Decent employee costs. Alternate work schedules made available. Good insurance options across the board.
Cost keeps going up, but overall benefit package is good and they match the 401K up to 6%
This is a federally funded facility, so there is the obligation to spend tax dollars wisely. So while there isn't free food and dry cleaning, there is challenging work and opportunities to do a variety of things.
