Congress continues to squeeze the national labs in both salaries and benefits. Working from Continuing Resolutions as they've puts serious trains on everything.
As a casual status employee there are no benifets
medical costs are low. difference between those hired before 2006 and newly hired employees is not equitable. hard to attract young people to tiny town.
Lab provides options for health insurance including dental and vision. Long time disability, death & dismemberment. Life insurance and legal assistance. Up to 6% match in 401K. Great work/life balance.
Very good pay for a postdoc. Although Los Alamos is somewhat expensive with not many great living options.
Generally, managers and supervisors understand work/life balance and encourage employees to maintain a healthy family/social life as long as the work gets done.
Location is great for outdoors.
Good health care, dental and vision coverage. There is no bonus or things like that. The salary increase is standard minimum level.
