Great package for a government agency; definitely a pair of golden handcuffs
They provide a stipend to purchase medical and dental benefits. There is bilingual pay, sick leave, vacation, and a pension plan.
Since I am a consultant there are no benefits. That suits me as I have health care and retirement savings plans already.
Great benefits that you will not find anywhere else
You get a benefit allowance, which you can use to "purchase" benefits or receive money back in your paycheck. Allowance includes DSA and HSA contributions. Pretty incredible how much I can get per month. Plus a pension!!!

Employees do not contribute to Social Security. No State of California Disability benefits - employees wanting this type of insurance have to purchase their own policy, such as AFLAC
It's comprehensive but the County continuously changes the benefits package which, consequently, affects all of its Departments
