Very nice to have but the state does take out 11% of your pay towards pension. Which is a huge chunk.
It was mandatory and took way too much out of each pay check. I hated that it wasn't an option.
Employees need to be given more information about the pension plan and benefits. The web site needs to provide more information to employees who leave and more information to employees who retire from the county. Employees need to be offered appointments with Human Resources experts.
It requires a large amount of your take home pay and the rate is constantly increasing. Many poorly performing employees allowed to stay and still collect tax payers money as pension post-employment.
Its one of the best in the state, but you are forced to participate, no opt out choice.
Maricopa County participates in the Arizona State Retirement System. Enrollment is required and percent of pay is fairly "high" - around 11%. But, it is a great system, managed well, and forces good planning for future.
It is through the Arizona State Retirement System, ASRS, but is a mandatory 10%.
