I accrued lots of paid time off while I was there. Went on plenty of vacations.

The accrual rate is pretty good but my supervisor has said I take too many time off. If I earn it...You must take paid time off for weather events and if the university closed.

My principal investigator is very understanding. He lets me take vacations from time to time, as long as I don't fall behind on my research. I am paid on a stipend, so my pay doesn't stop when I am on vacation. Also, I attend one or two conferences per year, which could be viewed as a sort of paid vacation (although it is work-related).

new employees earn 7:50/month vacation, goes up every 5 years, 20 year employees earn 17:20/mo vacation. Professional, non-faculty earn 24 days/yr, separate from sick leave. Also get leave for community service, mentoring and tutoring, military leave, jury duty leave, and the legislature sometimes feels guilty about not giving us raises and offers 40 or more hours of bonus leave.
