They give you an allowance to purchase benefits, and if you don’t go over the difference is paid back to you. They have great options and a variety of price points

Has great benefits on top of working for the government
Good benefits, but the price out of pocket keeps inching up every year. With the employee benefit allowance, it is still less than most non-government employers.

Benefit allowance almost covers the cost of health insurance. You also get a ton of vacation and sick days. PTO builds up fairly quickly and what you do not use you can cash out if you leave the company.
Benefit package continues to increase without the current market benefit allowance increasing. Annual/sick leave are generous. Longevity is nice.
