Excellent benefits and PTO. Even if you have a domestic partner (not married, not same sex), they will give your significant other and children full paid benefits, as long as all in the same household.
CalPers is something everyone wants to be a part of plus the medical benefits. I have a family of three and all of us get 100% paid medical, dental and vision benefits. First few years, 18 days of vacation per year (with 10+ days of holiday PTO) and 5% raise every year for the first few years.
If you participate in the HMO (Kaiser Permanente), you pay NOTHING.
Palomar has great benefits. They cover everything and offer a good retirement plan. Their PTO coverage and time off flexibility were fair. I only left because I was moving out of state.
Since I am a part-time adjunct instructor, our benefits are very limited. If it weren't for the union, we wouldn't have the option to purchase medical insurance. The only other benefit we get is sick leave. On the other hand, the full-time instructors (about 20% of the faculty) get excellent benefits.
No benefits/perks besides 5 percent discount on books
