Big company benefits in a small company

I have worked at large corporations and was shocked at how great the benefits are at PDG considering their size. My benefits are much better. The company is very generous!!

Best thing was that you could be in the office or work virtually; the $ and other benefits did not make up for the abysmal work climate and expectations

I believe the benefits package was fairly standard for a company this size. It was good, not great - just average. What is unsaid here is taking sick days was highly frowned upon because a deadline is a deadline. I once worked at home with a 103 fever and a violent stomach bug because the director of my department at that time felt it was much better for me to "power through" than to delay any part of the project. This was a Friday after being sick on Thursday but definitely more able to "power through" - when I asked if I could simply work the rest of my Friday hours on Saturday I was told, "You can but you'll still need to take 3/4 of a sick day for today" which honestly is unbelievable since our time was recorded in 15 minute increments on different projects and I had several deliverables to turn in so there was solid physical documentation of my hours through the project management system. I took the hours off and worked 10 hours that weekend. That was the first huge red flag telling me it was not the company I thought it was when I got hired. Sadly - 2 years later, I had a similar interaction with a different director (high turn over in those positions too) when I had strep throat and I ignored for 3 days because of "deadlines" - I finally called "uncle" and went to the doctor with a high fever, chills, body aches and very little ability to swallow. I phoned my director and asked for a 1 day push back on a deadline and was told "turn off your phone and IM and just keep plugging away all day, it'll be ok" - I could barely see my computer screen to type never mind write coherent content. But sadly, this is what happens when you have your employees booked on so many projects that there is not even 1/2 a day of wiggle room for god forbid someone to have the flu and need a day off. In my current job, I have been here 4 years now (right after PDG), I have taken exactly 1 sick day (and I am on site). I am not a person who has ever abused sick time or taken a "mental health day".

The health insurance is very good for a small company.

Flexibility to work from home, generous PTO accrual, reasonably affordable health insurance options (given the overall healthcare cost trends)

It is a fair package. In the middle.
