The best thing I like is the 9/80(9 working days/80 working hours in 2 weeks) which means you can take a day off every other Friday. So we have a long weekend every other week.
Free onboard medical services for crew members, but quality could vary depending on the crew. Lower cost of internet packages on board, but still slow and expensive by large. Free food, just don't expect great food. Free accommodation, but expect to share your room with a fellow crew member. Free travel, but work comes first so don't expect you can travel far when the ship is docked at a port. Little to no long term crew member benefits.
No perks as a junior, after promotion you can receive some extra's like pension and shorter contracts. Very hard to receive overtime, only if you reach certain amount of hrs per month. Salary is fine.
So....many free perks and actual great company discounts onboard and off with so many retail companies you actual will want to use. 2wks vacation to start, floating holidays, sick days, stock, 401K, FREE CRUISES EVERY YR, great friend/family discounts, affordable health/life/dental/vision. insurance
Pros: - 9/80 Work Schedule - 401k Matching - Vacation & Sick Time Off - Employee Stock Purchase Plan - Employee Space Available Cruise Benefits - Cruise Discounts - Variety of Health Insurance options
As a crew member, contracts are written so that you are treated both as an employee and as an independent contractor, depending on which is most advantageous to the company in any particular circumstance. That means that there are very few of the benefits associated with other kinds of employment. There is no workers comp, no unemployment insurance, no company-provided health insurance (they do make a group health insurance plan available that you can purchase but it's expensive and sub-par, at least for a U.S. citizen).
9/80, free cruises, are good, health insurance and other benefits could be improved
Vacation time is a bit stingy
Cruise discount for employees and Friends and Family discount for up to 20 families
Supposedly you get benefits but our department can not get anyone from human resources to get more information about it.
List based on reports from current and former employees. It may not be complete.
