If you are an attorney, you receive great benefits. They are exemplary in the field in regards to maternity leave. If you are staff, that is not extended to you.
Healthcare was prohibitively expensive and tiered. The more you make the more you pay. 119k/yr = 16k/yr but 120k/yr = 18k/yr family healthcare premiums for example.
Generous time off and low health care costs at the time. Attorneys pay more, which is actually appropriate.
There was really no downside to their benefits package.

There is great health care coverage but no 401k matching for Staff Attorneys. While other non attorney staff such as paralegals enjoy 7% or more - staff attorneys get nothing.
