Sick time and PTO are the same.
They could change the contact so employees started accruing more vacation quicker. The sick pay wasn't easy to use. It benefits the employees who want to abuse it and not those who are good employees.
They use a PTO system so sick and vacation are rolled into one basket. New hires in the office get 12 days per year after the first year it goes up to 17 days. The next step is not until year 5.
Time off increases as seniority does. PH are based on calendar years. Vacations renew at hire anniversary.
PTO could be taken in increments of minutes which would allow for making up time and only taking what was needed to come up to the full 40 hour work week.
PTO was very fair and comparable to industry standards.
Start with 2 weeks vacation
Supervalu's PTO plan is competitive with other companies. They allow some limited carryover to the next year for unused PTO.
Pretty standard plan, minimum number of holidays
It takes forever to get more than a couple of weeks of vacation. After 15 years I finally had 4 weeks of vacation.
