Union benefits were taking a downturn through the years on account of weak negotiators representing the workers in Alaska. Even though technically the medical plan covered mental healthcare, too many employees freely admitted to being driven to counseling, anxiety, depression on account of the job's fast and furious pace, and stress made worse by unrealistic corporate expectations enforced by store managers who mostly had zero experience in pharmacy and encouraged backbiting amongst the pharmacy crew, so they Safeway should not get brownie points for paying for mental healthcare if their policies are conducive to a stressful and hostile work enviroment.

Cost was low to employees.
Full time employees are the only ones to get benefits and it is extremely hard to get a full tine position right away since they mostly do it by seniority. Only two people in the store that I know of have been promoted to full time in my 2 years there and both were managers that had been there for 5+ years and both had to transfer to different stores.
safeway is very rude to their courtesy clerks
10 percent off safeway products 5 percent on everything else (other than liquor tobacco etc) The absolute worst company ive had experience setting up the discount. They make you update it through their app which is terrible , every month. If you call to get ot added it takes half an hour and sometimes the person will forget to add it
