Lots of PTO, great retirement packages and health insurance. Great 9/80 schedule.

The County takes care of their employees from the beginning until completed retirement.

The good thing is that they help you pay for your benefits. The bad thing is everyone should get the same amount of money towards their benefits no matter what your classification is. That's not how they do it. If you're in a much higher classification you get more money towards your benefits. They should be helping the lower paid employees more.

100% coverage. not the typical 80/20 plans most employers offer

Was originally a good package; however, the County is now making new employees pay into their own retirement.

Best thing: Generous vacation and paid holidays, plus I worked a 9/80 schedule. Worst thing: The health insurance was very expensive and had a high deductible.

Health insurance seems expensive at first glance, but the coverage is amazing.

San Bernardino County has excellent benefits even with the loss of the 7% retirement contribution that was given to employees in lieu of a raise many years ago. This caused a large pay cut. However, the medical, dental, vision and time off package is great, although it has gone up every year so not quite as great as it once was from a value standpoint. One thing that San Bernardino offers it's supervisors that no other county seems to offer is an additional two weeks per year of Administrative leave time. This means that in supervisory and management positions, employees can have up to six weeks per year of vacation. Employees begin with two weeks per year. Time is accrued per pay period and is first available to use after working 1040 hours. It increases up to four weeks by your tenth year of employment. Additionally, there are many paid holiday, flexible work schedules. Sick time is accrued each pay period and 88 hours per year are provided for sick time for yourself and your family members.
