Employer Summary

San Mateo County has had a longstanding commitment to helping their employees balance their personal and professional demands through the provision of various types of leaves and options for time off. This has permitted an employee to address important professional and/or personal concerns, (i.e. health problems, family matters) or to realize a personal goal (i.e. extended vacation, professional degree) while still retaining employment status as a County employee. Ultimately, this “win-win” situation contributes to greater employee satisfaction and retention of valued employees.

Under FMLA men and women can take Maternity or Paternity leave, provided they have been with the organization for 1 year or longer. SMC is generous in that staff can use their paid time off (sick, vacation, accured, comp, etc.) to supplement the UIB/SDI wages.
