Decent Health Insurance, Transportation Assistance, Ticket Discounts, are all good. But no employer match for retirement.

Seattle Opera offers a 403b retirement plan (no match), Kaiser HDHP (HSA & Flexible FSA) & HMO Plans (other spending plan), Principal Dental, Short & Long term disability insurance, supplemental life insurance, and an EAP. Currently SO pays the vast majority of the premiums, and offers up to $1,000 toward a health spending/savings plan. It helps to make the low pay feel less low. As an employee you're entitled to "curtain comps" (a free ticket redeemed at the box office for that performance) when capacity allows, 2 passes to mainstage dress rehearsals, 10 tickets at 50% off, and occasional other employee discounts. There is an option to receive an Orca card with orca passport for FT employees. Others can make pre-tax contributions to an Orca card. Parking passes are available at a Seattle Center Employee discount rate to staff, for use in nearby parking lots. No official tuition assistance or employee advancement training, but most department heads seem reasonable reimbursing relevant trainings.

Good medical, dental and eye care insurance. Pension plan discontinued due to institutional financial challenges. Excellent vacation, holiday and sick leave benefits. Friendly and good work environment.

Former designer in Seattle, WA, Washington State

I worked full-time as an independent contractor in the office building with the technical design team for over 3 years and never received anything in the way of benefits. It was outright scandalous and after talking to several union members shouldn't have happened. I often worked overtime without time and a half or any added hourly wage boost, and wasn't even compensated for a monthly ferry pass or any transportation stipend when it was required I even had to pay for street parking even though our own lot was never full simply because of my contract status.

Full benefits - health, dental, flex plan, 403b. Though salaries are not the highest in the arts world, the benefits provide good security financially.
