Never knew how I was getting paid - I feel as though I was severely underpaid and that they inflated the opportunity of the commission.

You are paid the same as the reps you are training, regardless of the fact that your knowledge of the subject is clearly higher, and you only get a higher commission bonus if a certain sales result is reached. Problem is that goal is different every time; negotiated between the manager who's office you are training and your higher ups. You really don't get any say in the process. If you don't hit that goal, based on any number of factors- trainee doesn't fit the bill, territory/location (which is a reality that is never accepted as a hardship) etc.- you are barely making minimum wage for a full 12 hour day. The defense is that if you are good at your job you shouldn't worry about hitting the goal. But even when you are good at what you do, no training for you or the person you are coming in to sometimes train from the ground up, means you are basically out there on your own.

If you're going to pay an hourly salary at or near minimum wage, your commission bonus needs to be better. Especially if you aren't going to provide benefits, overtime, holiday pay, etc.
