This is one of the few companies that still offer good insurance at decent cost. The company offers 3 different plans to choose from. The one with the lowest premium has a higher deductible (around $1,500) but the company pays a couple hundred dollars into a Health Savings Account that rolls over every year. This plan may be best for younger employees who don’t expect to see a doctor more than once every year or two. There’s a mid level plan with higher premiums but a lower deductible ($1,000). Then there’s the high level Choice Plus Plan with the highest premium but lowest deductible ($500). This is a POS plan so it’s a hybrid of an HMO and a PPO so you’re able to choose whether to save money in network or use an out of network provider. Premiums range from about $10 for a single employee on the HSA plan and around $375 for high level family coverage. The Choice Plus plan is really good for employees and their family who take a couple medications and see the Doc a couple times a year. I can really only talk about the Choice Plus plan because that’s what I have. It’s provided by United Healthcare and has a HUGE network (Basically all doctors and hospitals are in the network so there’s lots of choice there). You pay reasonable copays for most services ($25 pcp and $40 specialist and urgent care) and the $500 deductible really only applies to really expensive care in a hospital and surgeries/procedures. Hospital inpatient care, surgeries, and costly scans are covered at 80% after $500 deductible and there’s a $4800 out of pocket max for each covered person. I’ve visited my PCP 2 times this year, gotten blood work done twice, visited a dermatologist for an in-office procedure and have taken a couple medications for a respiratory infection. My total out of pocket after all that was around $250 for copays and coinsurance. Prescription copays have gone up in recent years but are still reasonable at $10 for 30 day generics. Note that there is a $50 prescription deductible you need to meet each year. Dental coverage is through Delta Dental and is reasonable priced where you pay basically nothing for standard dental cleanings and X-rays. There is a $1500-$2000 annual maximum benefit depending on the plan you choose but it would be difficult to reach that if your getting the basic care. Vision insurance is dirt cheap and offers good coverage. No issues with the coverage and I hope the company keep the coverage steady in future years.
