Great benefits. Makes up for some of the downsides of working for the government. Takes 7 years to become vested in pension program. Not sure how many "younger" people are staying in these types of jobs that long anymore.

Best thing about working for the State of Maryland is the benefit packages offered to employees. The worst part about working for the state is the benefit package given to retirees. Health care deductions for retirees are taken post tax instead of pretax.

7 percent of your pay check is deducted to go into pension plan. You had option of opting for other benefits by signing up during open enrollment

Excellent 401k options, but no current employer matching contribution. Pension plan applies to permanent employees.

State of Maryland Benefits are really good and affordable. That the perk to staying employed for so long. They offer 3 different plan choices and you prescription plan must be purchased separate.

The benefits package for the State of Maryland is above average. They offer an exceptional sick leave policy. They have a pension. Also the annual vacation leave offered is one of the best.

Terrible retirement plan . There's no matching for the 401 plan.
