Excellent retirement plan, lots of vacation, health care just changed and is limited and expensive. Poor explanation of benefits upon hire, you better ask questions because no one will help you. You'll be directed online. No one looks out for you with information and they will say that's your fault you didnt know. Very condescending and rude. Everyone will offer a different view of what the rules are too. Very strict policies on sick , fmla and time off. If you get it wrong you can be fired.
The pension is ok with protected service at age 50. Health insurance premiums keep increasing
Everything was pretty standard, 5 years you are vested with their WRS system, you paid a monthly premium of $230 for family, FMLA, Paid maternity leave, Vet friendly
With the implementation of Act 10 State of Wisconsin staff not only took a pay cut by paying into their benefits, but also have seen a pay cut by freezing wages. Having one of the most solid pension funds in the country makes up for the pay cut for most employees. That said a state employee can generally find a private sector job with significantly higher benefits and pay.
Best thing is the Vacation/Holiday/Sick Hours that one can use to take paid time off throughout the year, Worst thing is you must pay a portion of health insurance where jobs with County and City pay entire amount
After 15 yrs, I've earned a substantial amount of vacation time. Unfortunately, the expectations of the job is a huge deterrence when it comes time to actually use them. Any more than 2 consecutive days off, you will be miserable trying to prepare to leave and when you get back. Thankfully, I am able to bank hours in Sabbatical so at least they might be useful at some point. Agent have Protected Status - Like other law enforcement professionals, you MIGHT be able to retire after 25 years (or 50 yo) but most can't afford to.
We have not had a raise in several years, and the cost of our benefits & our contribution to the pension plan has increased each year.
Excellent benefits, health care coverage, Paid time off, and insurance for retirement. Great retirement benefits and deferred compensation program
Great benefits. Well managed retirement fund.
The health benefits have decreased in recent years and many people complain about that; however, they are still far better than most other private and public sector benefits.
