Symantec grants paid time off.
Unlimited time off. However, employees don't feel they deserve to take many days off.
Symantec has "unlimited" time off, as long as your manager approves. Most managers seem to be flexible and will approve the time off. However since PTO isn't tracked, if you don't take any all year, you don't get paid for the time off you didn't take.
There should have been more vacation & PTO because it is the type of job that causes "burn out".
Sales has a NTO system and its up to you to use it.
In 2017, Symantec moved to accountable time off which meant you just needed to get it approved by your manager.
Competitive for what other companies offer.
This ALL depends on your manager. No guaranteed vacation. If your mgr approves it, you get it.
We use My Time Off which is manager approved. You build no vacation time and therefore the company has no overhead and if you leave they owe you no vacation time. On the positive side if you are a hard worker and have a good manager then you time off requests get approved without a problem.
Symantec uses the "take what you need" model of time off. This is great as I don't have to closely monitor how much time I have, but it ALSO makes people nervous to take time off...they don't want to be perceived as abusing the system. Overall, I believe this has lead to people taking *less* time off...people often need to be pushed to take the time off they need.
Symantec does not provide vacation time off. Reason: if you need time off, you address this with your colleague, and take of the week or two that has been requested. Your colleague will attempt to back fill you in your absents. Thus no vacation time process is required.
