They will hire everyone but their far left culture makes it a hostile place for straight white males.

There is no benefit. They don't want minorities in TFA.

StarStarStarStarStar Former TFA Corps Member in Conway, North Carolina

TFA really wants a diverse population of corps members, but the vast majority of its corps members are white women. Not to mention, so many many people serve as corps members who didn't come from economically disadvantaged homes or areas. I think TFA is at least aware of their diversity imbalance and are working towards improving it.

Their Diversity program was a joke. We were placed in ethnic/racial affinity groups. I was in the white affinity group which meant I listened to silver-spoon Southern trust fund babies voice their concerns about being able to relate to their students and about the difficulties of the job, because for the majority of folks, it was their first job. I was a scrappy first-gen student who grew up in the hood and dropped out of high school so yeah, safe to say I didn't get much out of those conversations. Everyone was afraid to say the words' white' or 'black' even though I guess that was the point of the diversity program --?? I feel like it would be more effective for the white affinity people to just shut up and listen to some experiences of corps members from different racial and socioeconomic backgrounds in an attempt to avoid them showing up at their school site and wandering around open-mouthed like they'd just landed in Rwanda or something.
