the benefits are not worth working there
No matching 401k, but plenty of paid holidays.
Like other state government agencies in Texas, HHSC offers full health insurance coverage for the employee, retirement pension, and generous time off.
Great package, I am very happy with it.
The health insurance was at one time the best package; however, they have begun to cut costs and they are doing so by taking it from the employees first.
Paid employee health insurance and 50% paid family health insurance.
Lots of time off: 8 closed holidays, 4 skeleton crew holidays in which departments are required to only staff a minimal amount of workers. If you have to work one of these days, you get holiday comp time to use on another date of your choosing, 80 hours of vacation leave, and 40 hours of sick leave. Health insurance is FREE for employees, but employees must pay premium for children, spouse etc. I think I pay about $220 per month for my dependent child. The health plans are all rather mediocre, but there are a couple to choose from. There are three dental plans to choose from, with the least expensive option being nothing more than a discount program. Vision insurance is a bit pricey, and the benefits aren't all that great. The organization provides a free life insurance policy probably enough to cover funeral expenses, but little more. Optional life insurance is available up to 4 times your salary. Short and long-term care insurance is also available. The organization has a MANDATORY pension plan that employees contribute 9.9% for their gross salary to. There is also an OPTIONAL 401(k) plan. All new employees are auto-enrolled into the 401(k) plan, and it is your responsibility to opt the administrator and opt out. The organization claims to have a work-from-phone option for some positions, but it is very difficult to get management to allow you to do so.
health insurance, vision, dental, 401K, sick time off and paid vacation time
Benefits are pretty great and kick in after 90 days if no previous state experience. No complaints at all reallly
The package that the HR person recommends is great, also do not get the dental that you pay a little every month. Get the one that comes out more monthly as you pay less when you go to the dentis.
